Manager has suspended me for her mistakes; owner of business won’t return my phone calls…. HELP!!!?

I started a job at a chiropractic center in January, the 14th, to be exact. I “trained” for 2 days before I began closing on my own. I made a few mistakes, but quickly corrected them and continued learning the their way of doing things.

Within a week, my manager began asking me about appointments that were booked wrong- and basically telling me that I ruined her morning/or afternoon because clients were upset that their appointments were either at the wrong time or not on the schedule at all! I thought it sounded funny, because I’m very experienced with the software they work on- I’ve worked with it before at a previous job. I began keeping track of all the appointments I made and making sure everything was perfect.

This week I was accused of shorting the drawer 2 days in a row; come to find out she miscounted a roll of dimes as “40″ rather than 50 on 1 day (yes, a huge deal was made about it) The second day she missed several rolls of coins and I had to point it out to her that day as well! This past weekend 3 people were booked for 1 appointment; when I asked who they spoke with- they all replied with her name. She blames me even as I type this, saying I should have made sure that everything was in the system correctly.

She asked if she could put me on probation yesterday, and told me not to clock in and took my key. I told her “No, because the mistakes happening around here aren’t from me. ” I was told that “probation period” is admitting fault. Is it?

She told me that this is a “work at will” state, and that she owes no explanation for letting me go. She has several clients who have written horrible reviews about the business online and her name comes up in quite a few of them! 2 of the reviews should have proved to her that she messed up the booking or what-not. Even then, she tried to connect it back to me.

This business is a franchise; I was told to call “Franchise Corporate”… I have to find out about it.

What would you do???

ADT experience and reviews please?

I just got an ADT system installed with a 2 year contract. I shopped around and did a lot of research on equipment and prices.., and found they used good equipment and had reasonable monitoring prices. I figured ADT was in business for so long they would be a good company. Plus I got an awesome deal. Unfortunately, I just started reading online reviews. Scary. A lot of people pretty angry at ADT and complaining of bad systems, failures in protection, horrible customer service and rip offs. Is a career change into being a librarian in middle age possible?

I am a 41 year old man who was recently laid off after 15 years doing mostly MS Access database work for a small marketing consulting firm. I have been seriously thinking about a career change. One change would be into teaching and I have had some bites especially since I have a math/science background and that is in demand. I have a BS in Computer Science and an MBA in Marketing. I also for 2 years after school in high school worked in a library in a role where I had a lot of autonomy.

The other idea I had is to work at a library/be a librarian. I have always been a “vessel of information” and part of my inspiration is that one of our clients at my past job was a consortium of colleges that offer information science degrees. It appears that many libraries have a need for someone who is very savvy in databases and the Internet and for people with my exact line of qualifications and experience.

Where I’m lost is how I “get my foot in the door” for this. For example:

- Do I need to get a Masters in Library Science or Information Science?

- Is this an impossible field to first crack into when over 40? (Albeit, barely “over 40″).

Is it illegal to list 36 “fake” employees on your business website?

So my buddy and I (we’re both 21) have this internet startup and the company is literally 3 days old. We obviously have no employees yet except for the two of us. We’re running a marketing/consulting firm that serves a pretty big city in the US.

Would it be illegal for to list 36 employees with fake names under our Management Team and Employees section? When we’re directly in contact with clients it will just be the 2 of us – we will NOT impersonate anyone else during direct contact with clients, but we’re just putting the fake names on our website to give us a head start.

Is that illegal?

How much should I charge?

I do under the table work consulting a small spa business. I do up ads, flyers, brochures, give her marketing advice, and advertise on the internet. I never know what to charge her, and usually end up getting $20 per job. Is this adequate? She tells me to set a price, but I just don’t know what to charge. I don’t really have any overhead costs, or travel time to get there because I work in the same building as her Spa, and usually end up doing stuff for her there.

Resume advice — should I include two jobs which don’t relate to my expertise?

My experience looks like this:

2003-2009 finance / credit analysis for a commercial lender

2002-2003 Sales (low level interim position, one company, 14 months)

2001-2002 Interim clerical work (one company, 13 months)

1999-2000 General manager, internet company

1995-1999 Marketing director, international trade consulting

The issue is that when the dot com bubble burst, I had some personal (family) issues that forced me to move back to a small town with a limited job market and took two jobs which I did well at, but were off track from my career. Where my resume was business and management prior to 2001, if I use a chronological resume, I look like a guy that has a lack of focus, or an unclear skill set. If I use a functional format, there is a gap in my employment from 2000 to 2003 — and I don’t want an HR person to assume the worst.

We are already using craigslist. What about cost/benefit of: local radio ads?, promotions through other local retailers- and which kind?, mailings?, we do have a limited website currently, but we sell local only- so how to SEO for that?

Career in Music – What Should I Do?

So, I’m 19 *soon to be 20*, graduated high school almost 2 years ago, and, I’m still torn about what to do with myself. When I graduated I had no direction, absolutely no direction lol. I tried my hands at all kinds of things, but ended up quitting. Not out of depression or “oh I suck at this blah blah blah”, but just because I get bored. I’m the type of person that gets very bored and restless if I don’t have something to do……..except when I was working at my last job, and when I play my music.

My last job was awesome, pretty much was with an internet marketing/consulting/advertising companies. 2 of them at once in fact (working with my direct boss, and then helping him out with his biggest account as pretty much the “assist consultant” or “secondary consultant”). It wasn’t your typical white collar, desk-jockey, type job. That type of job, where I’m just pushin paper/pencil would kill me, I’m way to restless. But with this past job, I got to be creative, I got to use my ideas, I got to edit/make videos, websites, pictures, etc. And I got my training for free. BUT, unfortunately, due to the economy, the business has taken a hit. Boss said he can’t afford to pay me right now, and didn’t want to have me working for free lol, but that I’d most likely be able to come back in a couple months. So, more like laid-off than fired.

Now on to my music. I play flamenco guitar. I play everyday and I can honestly say that it’s the one and only thing that truly makes me happy. It’s my release. I would absolutely LOVE to make a career out of it, but it’s music, much easier said than done. And considering it’s also flamenco, considering most people probably think about the bird (flamingo) when they see the word, it’s not exactly all that main-stream.

Lately I’ve been very lost, very very lost. I’ve tried my hand at a few things, and quit all of them. College……..psh, yea right. I’m not lazy, not lazy at all, trust me, the responsibility of my last job was enormous. It’s just, college isn’t right for everybody, some people just aren’t meant to go, and I happen to be one of those people. What can I say? I tried, only lasted a year then I decided that I couldn’t keep doing it. And some more things here and there I don’t want to elaborate on, and make this any longer than it already is.

Anyway, on to my question (sorry for rambling), when it comes down to it, the only 2 things I haven’t quit are: my job, and flamenco.

The reason why I keep trying my hand at other things and not just sticking with music and the job that I have/had, is that it’s free-lance. Times are good, times are bad. Music is artistic, and the web-job is free-lance. Basically, it’s not something I’m guaranteed to always have (if that makes sense). And I’m a person that grew up with VERY little stability in my life, so the thought of living the rest of my life like that……just the thought of it stressed the hell outta me. But still, those are the only 2 things I haven’t quit.

So, finally, my question is: What just sticking with my gut and do music and the internet-marketing job (when I get it back, or even finding clients of my own), or should I keep searching for something else?

Just trying to get some other people’s (aside from family/friends) view, you know, people who don’t really know me, kind of an objective point of view.

And I’m currently searching for a new job/clients and leads of my own (I don’t think I can count how many places I’ve applied to this week, from odd-jobs to grocery stores to professional companies, I just some form of temporary income) So it’s not like I’m sitting on my ass. I have been living with my father, but like I said, I help out with the bills and pull my own wait, I’m not a bum.
