Google Rank – Does it Matter?
Let’s face it, most people set themselves up with a traditional website or a blog in hopes of making money online. Since most online marketers just starting out have no idea of where to turn to for advice, they will in all likelihood perform a search engine query to learn about how to attract online traffic their website.
It won’t take the online marketer researching information long to realize that one of the most common aspects of attracting more traffic, is in ranking high enough on the search engine result pages, or the SERPs. There are tons of articles, reports and books that teach new online marketers methods of ranking higher. The purpose of almost all of these articles, reports and books, is to teach the online marketer how to optimize their site to rank well on Google.

For example, one guru might teach that the online marketer needs to learn how to completely optimize their website from the title, to the homepage, to the achieved pages, to the keywords. Another online marketing guru might teach that there are trophy phrases that will ensure that the online marketer will attract lots of online traffic, in order to make money. There are so many gurus out there that teach that the secret to making money online in found in your site’s Google rank. All of these gurus claim that they have the secret formula to making sure that your website will rank high enough in Google to make money.
However, what these gurus aren’t sharing is that while it is necessary to increase one’s online traffic, your Google rank doesn’t guarantee that the online traffic will convert, so that the online marketer can indeed make money. For example, an online marketer might invest in learning how to rank high for their keyword or for their niche. Many online marketers have been taught to focus on their Google ranking. Therefore, the online marketer will become obsessed with it. However, they miss the fact that while they might enjoy a high ranking for a time, and while the high ranking might introduce more financial prospects to one’s website, your Google rank doesn’t guarantee that these prospects will become customers, or that they will click on advertising links.
That’s not to say that page ranking or that Google ranking reports aren’t important. Again, an online marketer’s website has no chance of being found if they aren’t ranking high enough. However, the bottom line is that the money isn’t in the ranking status. The money for an online marketer is in testing and recognizing the aspects of their website that are converting. For example, the online marketer should test all aspects of their site, such as the site’s appearance, the content of the site, the advertisement placement, etc. Many online marketers test these aspects and find that even slight changes on one’s website can greatly increase their conversions and therefore, their earnings.
At the end of the day, filling one’s website content with trophy keyword phrases doesn’t matter so much, if those keyword phrases aren’t converting or creating revenue. Conversely, the online marketer might not have the Google rank they desire, but if their keywords or other aspects of their website are converting, they are coming out ahead of the person who’s site ranks higher, but isn’t converting. What’s the sense of obsessing around ranking status or Google ranking reports, if the site isn’t converting as it should?
So, does this mean that your site’s Google rank doesn’t matter? The short answer is that one’s ranking certainly helps them to gain more online traffic. However, the online marketer needs to focus less on Google ranking reports and focus a lot more on making sure that they understand the aspects of their website that are actually creating revenue conversion.
